Because of the fast paced world we live in, with our jobs, chauffeuring the kids to all of their activities, and all the dozens of other things we do each day, we spend more of our time in our bedroom than any other room in our house. It should be a very calming place for us to get our much needed rest. It is very important that it be well designed and free from clutter. You should plan your room according to how it will be used, and choose your furniture carefully.
Before making any decisions about your bedroom decor, first decide what will be the most important to you in this space. Will your room be used primarily for sleeping? If this is your primary goal you will want to keep your design simple. Keeping your room free of distractions may result in a better nights sleep, making you feel more rested and alert the next morning. Many researchers believe that working in bed has a negative effect on our sleep patterns, due to the stress of the work on our brains. Our brain is still trying to process the information while we are trying to sleep. A television in the bedroom can also have the same effect on our brains. It might be a better option for you to leave the television watching to the living room, and just read a good book before falling asleep. Storage is another important factor to consider for your bedroom decor. Where will you store your clothes? If you have lots of closet space in your bedroom then you may only need a dresser, or chest of drawers. If your room has no closet space, or a very small closet you may need to invest in some larger pieces of furniture for storage, such as an armoire, and maybe a large dresser. These can be a matching set or mix and match for a more eclectic look.
If you have limited space in your home and need to work in your bedroom. If this is the case you will need to add a desk in your decorating plan. Adding a desk to your bedroom will also mean that you will need a desk chair. This may need to be a small chair if you are limited on space in your room.
When you have an idea of the furniture pieces you will be needing in your room, now is the time to plan the layout of the room. Take note of where the windows are located. You will want to avoid placing furniture directly in front of the windows in order to get the most sunlight in your room. Each one of us has our own unique decorating style. In order for your bedroom to be uniquely yours you should try several different arrangement of your furniture. Shift your bed around to different sides of the room to see what feels most comfortable for you and your partner. With some careful room planning and smart furniture choices you should be able to create a room that feels like you very own personal oasis. By adding some great bedding and decor items, and well placed lighting you should be able to relax and get some well deserved rest. It may take a little time and a little extra money but the end results will be worth it.
